The Global Trend of Buying Citizenship is rising
Buying citizenship and residency rights is a global trend of the super-rich who want to choose a new residence or new citizenship.
According to British polling firm Latitude, it is estimated that about 110,000 wealthy individualsbought the right to live abroad in 2019. It is expected that by 2023, this number will reach 125,000 and may increase. Particularly, demand for a second passport among wealthy Americans increased by 300% between 2019-2021.
According to an investigation by Al Jazeera television, 1,400 applicants for Cypriot citizenship have poured 2.15 million euros into the country between 2017 and 2019.
To obtain full Turkish citizenship for the applicant and family members, the investor must contribute a minimum of $400,000 to the country such as buying a house of equivalent value. About 120 days later, they can become holders of Turkish passports. Or at a more flexible level, without buying citizenship, for 200,000 EUR, non-Europeans can buy the right to live, work and study in Portugal and travel visa-free within the Schengen area for up to 5 years as long as they spend 5 days per year in this country.
